Egyptian wedding rhythms, distorted echoes of familiar melodies, bass guitar, oud, electronic textures and psychedelic improvisation collide in the music of Ein l Aql (عين العقل).
Formed in Alexandria, the duo have built their sound around experimentation, moving between what feels recognizable and unfamiliar. Popular rhythms and traditional elements are pulled apart and reshaped through production, while experimental ideas are brought into a space that still feels distinctly Egyptian.
That tension sits at the heart of their second album, Albaydah Wal Hajar.

Albaydah Wal Hajar — The Egg and the Stone — is an experimental electronic psychedelic shaabi album inspired by Egyptian wedding rituals and popular celebrations.
Rather than treating those references as decoration, Ein l Aql use them as raw material. Traditional rhythms built for dancing are intertwined with bass guitar, oud, electronic and popular instruments, unconventional rhythmic structures and resampled fragments of familiar music.
Experimentation and improvisation are central to the record. A melody can begin in recognizable territory before being stretched or displaced; a familiar rhythm can become the foundation for something heavier and more psychedelic.
The result shifts between recognition and disorientation, making unfamiliar sounds accessible while making the familiar feel strange again. Beyond the music itself, the album reflects on the ritual and social dimensions of collective celebration.
From Alexandria to the Live Stage
That unpredictability becomes even more present in Ein l Aql's live performances. Albaydah Wal Hajar has become a part of their shows, where improvisation allows the music to evolve from one performance to another.
Since emerging as Ein l Aql in 2022, Amr Zidan and Bassem Diaa have played more than 60 live shows, released two albums and several singles, and collaborated with artists from Egypt and abroad through residencies, exchanges and projects. Zidan began his musical career in 2006, while Diaa began his in 2008, giving the project a deep foundation beneath its experimentation.
The duo's story is inseparable from Alexandria. At a time when the city's independent music scene had become quiet after the pandemic, Ein l Aql became part of a new wave bringing energy back into its musical life.
Their growth has happened without treating Cairo as a gateway. Rooted in Alexandria, the project has built relationships, audiences and collaborations beyond Egypt while remaining connected to where it began.
Following a European tour in April and May 2026, Ein l Aql return to Europe in October and November.
A Familiar Thread
That instinct — local sound, global ambition, no permission needed — already runs through Habibi Shik Shok's world.
Yunis, part of our family and rooted in the same Alexandria–Kafr El-Dawwar corridor, carries that independent spirit onto the Heshk Beshk stage.
Now that connection continues.
Ein l Aql join the Zambalita lineup on Saturday, 17 October, at Bankeion Hotel.
From Egyptian wedding rituals to psychedelic electronics, and from Alexandria to stages across Europe, Ein l Aql are building a musical language on their own terms.
This October, it arrives in Athens.
